“Michael Neel and crew just nailed this project as it was well thought out, well shot, perfect use of locations, and just enough weirdness that I think Lovecraft fans will enjoy it. This short film is one of the best things I have watched in 2025 as it’s absolutely charming at the same time hypnotically amazing! For that my friends I have to give this short film 4 out of 4 stars.” -Gross Movie Reviews

Celephaïs, a story from H.P. Lovecraft’s Dream-cycle, is about a boy who has the most wonderful dream when he is seven, and then spends sixty-six miserable years desperately trying to find it again, to escape his mundane and depressing life.

H.P. Lovecraft film adaptations have largely ignored his Dream-cycle, and we are thrilled to bring the Dreamlands to life. Producer Joe Lemieux and director Michael Neel are passionate Lovecraft fans, and we have made the kind of film that we would like to see.

The story is a mix of dark fantasy and horror that deals with familiar Lovecraft themes: desperation, isolation, obsession, dreams, cosmic horror, and, of course, madness.

Our special effects, by Jeff O’Brien and Nicholas Flanagan (Shuttle, Drive-In Horrorshow, God of Vampires) are all practical, including latex gore, puppetry, and camera tricks. With the exception of compositing our effects using a computer, there is nothing in this film that couldn’t have been done one hundred years ago.

We filmed at fourteen locations in New England, Lovecraft’s home and ours. We feel a strong connection to the area, and we are delighted to share it with audiences everywhere. The film doesn’t have a definite release date yet, so stay tuned.
See you in the Dreamlands.
