The Shadow over Innsmouth reaches the second stage of financing

Dream Apex Pictures announces the second stage of financing for The Shadow over Innsmouth. The greatest horror movie never made has gotten past development.

H.P. Lovecraft’s story The Shadow over Innsmouth is horror’s holy grail. Written by one of the godfathers of modern horror, it’s one of the scariest stories ever told, with scenes so tense and terrifying that the sheer imagery will sit in the back of your mind and stay there long after you’ve drifted off to sleep.

Partnering with New England-focused production company HollyWooot Film Group, Dream Apex Pictures is proud to present the next piece of concept art, “Joe Sargent, the Bus Driver,” by Jeff O’Brien. Joe Sargent is a fan-favorite character in the Innsmouth universe, and we are excited to bring him to the screen.

“From the moment I first read The Shadow over Innsmouth I knew that it could be adapted into a movie,” says co-director Michael Neel. “The story is terrifying and tense, with a sense of dread that hangs over it all. It was set in Massachusetts’ North Shore, which is close to where most of the production team lives, so we will be filming on location to get the tone that is so critical to the tale. I feel a great responsibility to get this right, and make the kind of film that I would like to see.”

Co-director Joe Lemieux says, “Getting a chance to co-direct a feature-length adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s The Shadow over Innsmouth brings me back to my childhood as a seven-year-old watching Roger Corman’s The Haunted Palace or The Terror on Creature Double Feature. While staring at the wonderful images coming out of the huge Zenith tube tv, I used to dream of what it would be like to be on those fog-strewn Gothic, magical, macabre, and atmospheric movie sets. Now, forty-nine years later, I finally get my chance to be on one. It was worth the wait!”

Producer Jessica Dwyer says, “I’ve dreamed of making movies for as long as I’ve had nightmares that H.P. Lovecraft inspired. The Shadow over Innsmouth has never truly been shown on film in the way we want to, to terrify you with both what can be seen and what can’t. It’s a story rooted in the fear that your family’s secrets are something you can never outrun and that are embedded in you, a part of you. In this story that fact is gut-wrenchingly true and going home again isn’t always the happy ending you think it is. I can’t wait to bring the shadows to life.”

The Shadow over Innsmouth is directed by Michael Neel and Joe Lemieux, and produced by John Keough and Jessica Dwyer.
